First shot at building

Thread Starter
Like the title mentions, this is my first time to build up a computer. I really have no background, so I have spent weeks trying to figure out what to get, and what everything means. I have been talking with a few people locally about specs, etc. But I wanted to first post on here to see what you guys thought before I went on to purchase. I have been using this site lots for information, so thanks for that!

My big issue is wondering if these things will be compatible. I am wanting to build a computer sub-900 for editing photos/some video. I will be purchasing Windows 7 64 bit from school at a student discount along with an Adobe Creative Suite package.

Here is what I have. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, this site has probably saved me from tons of stress down the road.

I agree with Rabbit. Looks to be a decent build other than the two things he mentioned. I use that PSU in a computer thats on its third year and its still going strong. It'll probably last forever!

Those combos are about perfect Getting an x6 may be beneficial, they usually overclock slightly further for not much more.

Agree with the idea to go for a 6 core, also if you are not really gaming the video card could be a little overkill.

I had less then optimal luck with the ripjaws in my setup...at least where overclocking is concerned they are rather finicky.

I'd get these combos

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.603972

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.604419

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.607662

Add in your cpu cooler, dvd drive and HDD

This. X6 for sure if you are using multithreaded encoding programs.

based on??? the video card being better? Given, but if he's not using for gaming a lower end card makes more sense.

The psu I could see the argument for, case is a lot preference.

the cpu and mobo are both pretty big upgrades and the overall price is cheaper after rebates.

I say go for a Phenom II X6 and unlock the 6950 to a 6970 when you get it.

EDIT: Looks like a 6850 so no unlock possible. Good card but I heard the 6850s were a little loud.
