Amd 955 be + biostar a880

Thread Starter
Hi every one , i am new to overclocking and i had just overclock my cpu to 4.0ghz.

However i am now in a dilemma whether i should keep the cpu at 3.9ghz instead of 4.0ghz. At 3.9ghz i am able to keep the voltage at stock voltage without any problem. whereas at 4.0ghz i had to add on another 0.50v to my cpu vcore in bios. In the picture it shows 1.4xx but, sometimes it will reach 1.50v. I wonder is it safe?

below is my information on 4.0ghz. The max temperature it goes at around half an hour test on prime95 is 55 degree Celsius

So any advices?

Biostar A880!?
The A880 is a 3+1 phase, definitely not suitable for 125W overclocking whatsoever - heck I don't even know if it's entirely safe for 125W at stock! Back things down now before disaster occurs!

run p95 blend for a few hours, if that remains stable I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think most people worry about the x4's until you are 1.55 or over on voltage.

OR knock it down if that is the mobo you are running and what xd says is true

You should worry about the x4 at any voltage above stock on that board.
Seriously, you'll need it

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/...t.php?S_ID=492

That is the official page from Biostar which says that the 125W 955 is supported. Heck they say that even the X6 is supported. But looking at the picture I do count only 4 chokes so it does look like it is only a 3+1 power phase board. I definitely would not be adding any extra voltage. I would also carefully monitor those mosfets to see if they are getting hot. Not the best OC'ing board.

Can you please go to User CP and click on edit system so we know what hardware you are using.

Also another thing here is this. AMD does not like heat. 62c is the MAX you should go on an AM3 chip. Personally I would never go above 55c at any given time. You should put up your complete system specs also so we know what your running.

ok, i have put up my system specification.
I have read pass this link http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/94...y-usually.html i don't really get it after reading it. computer noobie here
So overall i should not overclock at all?
or i would be fine if i don't add any extra voltage and it is stable?
