HD 5850: Screen flashes and blacks out temporarily

Thread Starter
I'm using an HD 5850 and my screen sometimes flashes and blacks out temporarily.

This happened before I OCed my 5850.

I then used a driver sweeper and reinstalled the latest ATI drivers. The problem still persists.

OC or without OC, the problem happens.

Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it?

Most likely a driver issue, lots of people including myself are having/had issues with 11.x driver versions.

I rolled back to 10.12 and everything is working perfectly again.

Also, don't use Driver Sweeper. It's not doing you good, and you won't be able to upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 when the time comes without a reformat since you used it, it deletes valuable ATi entries needed to install SP1.

AMD recommends you just install over your old drivers, but if you don't feel comfortable, a simple uninstall of your previous CCC is all you need to do.

Crap. Someone told me to use Driver Sweeper in a previous thread I made.

And is it true that ATI is purposely crippling the performance of the 5x series with their new drivers in an effort to sway people to upgrade?

I can't answer that fully, because I don't know. I definitely know their intentions are not to release horrible driver versions, but I guess that's not a possibility. I didn't have any problems with ATi drivers until they released the 11.x series of drivers.

Truthfully, I just think they don't spend enough time testing their drivers before they release them.
