Usually you want FX if you're looking for every last drop of crossfire/SLi performance.
8x CFX/SLi doesn't take a huge performance hit, generally 2-4% depending on game.

yeah but i wont be doing an sli, so its usless. for everday users a free video card for $60 with a gx, no gpu and a slight increse in sli performence for an average of $200. u choose lol

The Phenom II X4 840 is not a real Phenom. It lacks L3 cache and is based on the Propus die and not the Thuban/Deneb die.

With the Phenom II X4 820 you get 4MB of L3 cache and the Deneb die, so it should OC either the same or better. Also, I've yet to meet anyone that has not been able to unlock the extra 2MB of L3 cache on the 820 (but that only makes a difference of 2% at most).

AMD Phenom II x4 840 = Athlon II x4 840/650. Apparently the clock speeds got high so they decided to start calling it Phenom II.

Don't be fooled, it's basically an Athlon II with a Phenom II tagline slapped on it for no reason. S'why it's $100 as opposed to $125 and $145 for the x4 925 and x4 955 black edition (with the L3 caches) respectively. You can get the x4 820 (which has 4MB/6MB L3 cache, fair 2.8Ghz clock speed, similar overclockability to other Phenom II x4s - just is C2 revision so prepare for troubles with 4 DIMMs) for same price as x4 840

so i should be able to get at least 3.6 ghz out of it right (820)? im using 2 dimms. if i can get 3.6ghz +, ill get it and mabey shoot for a recertified gtx 470 and a x4 820. and also i think now i understand it better - all the BE chips are the same with just higher clocks? so a 925 should have the same capabilities as a 975?
