*Puts on shades* 5850 overclocking time, advice?

Thread Starter
I gave an attempt at overclocking my 5850 not too long ago. TL;DR, I got lazy and gave up. But this time, it's for real. I spent $300 something on a GPU, might as well put it to good use.

However, I forget the name of the program most people use to stability test their OC GPUs, enlighten me? Is it MSI Kombuster?

Tools:
MSI AB 2.00.
Crysis Benchmark, 100 loops.
Heaven 2.0 Benchmark.
Many many hours of gaming.

Sound good?

As soon as I get the name of that program, let the overclocking begin

I'm assuming they both in the end do the same thing, and since MSI AB came with Kombustor, I guess I'll use Kombustor.

It is time.

Quick question, it's okay to have other windows over Kombuster while it's running a test, correct? GPU load is still 98-99% and temps are fairly high. And I mean the window is still open, just other windows over it, NOT MINIMIZED!

Just wondering if it matters, cause I'd like to be able to read & what not, not stare at a blue spinning logo for hours.

Thats why i like furmark over Kombuster

I like error checking. I have found that using Gputool to scan for artifacts to be pretty effective. I then follow it up with OCCT with error checking enabled.

Well, I was testing the memory in 15 minute intervals all the way up to 1250. I set it to 1250, ran a 1024x768 stability test, and went to sleep. Woke up, and 8 hours and 40 minutes later it was still stable, which is nice because that's really good memory mark without having to over volt.

The temps got kinda high, 86c was max temp recorded so I think I found the farthest I can go with my memory. However, I haven't cleaned my card/rig in awhile so I'm going to turn it off and clean it and see if temps drop a fair amount.

There is absolutely no need to be doing that. I hope that you weren't using furmark.

8 hours... for a GPU!?

I would say 30 minutes would work fine...
