Hard drive error, need urgent help!

Thread Starter
I have a Seagate hard drive, it's 1.5tb there's about 90gb free, and I keep getting I/O Error every time I try to get into folders. It runs really slow, so I thought it was fragmented because of the amount of VERY important files on it but it wont stay connected longer than five minutes, it vanishes from My Computer and I have to rescan hard disks in computer management to get it to reshow, I've tried different sata cables and SeaTools for windows to check for errors, that's scanning at the moment. Anyone know of any programs to fix or check for errors? I can't get chkdsk to run on it

I am running 9.6.0.1014. Looks like the latest is 10.1.0.1008. Are you running AHCI in you bios? That would be why the driver won't install.

Might have to search around for it (), but Spinrite may help with recovery on the disk if needed.

You might check on seagate's site for a firmware update to the drive. That would be my next step. You may also try to boot from your win7 *edit* installation disk and try to run a cmd prompt from the recovery section (I would disconnect all other disks before doing this) and try to run a chkdsk /r from there. Good luck!

Haha I need all the luck I can get! Just tried running chkdsk and it's saying ''CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives'' It's NTFS and it's not showing as RAW in computer management..

^^^THIS. You didn't mention the version of your drive, but from the sounds of it, it's acting like a Barracuda 7200.11 with the bad firmware. Hope you get it taken care of before it bricks.
