But the bottom line is that reinstalling the OS is the best way to do it for now. Not saying that people haven't had success with Driver Sweeper in some cases.

i've never experienced driver problems like this, where i've had to reinstall the OS (with the exception of replacing a motherboard), when i've replaced a single item such as gpu, and i've never removed the old drivers before installing the new ones, so i honestly do not understand issues like this.

i've done a lot of work on other people's computers that come to me and say cause they've gotten information similar to this "its a driver issue, need to reinstall my OS", and usually just going into device manage, removing the device in question and then reinstalling the driver from a fresh download or cd, fixes the problem.

advice like this, is just lack of knowledge, sorry if that offends, but it isn't helpful to suggest every problem can be fixed by a reinstall, thats just a waste of time.

You've got a nice low-end videocard there. Hurr hurr.

@Thread.

Kids. AMD drivers take more elbow grease to get working right.

NVidia drivers.

Drop them in, play. 95% of the time, unless the driver comes with some bug that kills your fan, which has happened -once- and AMDATIRAEGFANBOZYORZ treat this one driver error as a condemnation to Nvidia's drivers.

AMD's drivers however?

Yep. Still getting 99% idle GPU usage on the 5970's second GPU with 11.2's. BRB System restore. :I

Bad personal experiences can definitely leave a nasty taste in your mouth and prevent you from buying that brand again. I just found it laughable that the OP would NEVER consider another AMD card and seemingly will do so irrespective of whatever factual evidence is at hand. At least you make your opinion and leave some room for objectivity, even if it's a small one.

To say that one will never buy an AMD card again is to imply that AMD will continue to make problematic drivers and worse drivers than nvidia into the future. I wish I had a similar magic 8-ball vision I've owned a GTX 260 SLI rig and a 5850 CF rig and have not had any trouble with either. And I know that AMD does get more complaints than nvidia. But for me since I am definitely not a fanboy and I've not personally had disasters with either brand, I will continue to evaluate the GPU themselves and the stability of the latest drivers before deciding upon nvidia or AMD in my future upgrades.

I dont have issues with Nvidia or ATI drivers. If ATI is basically giving me 50 bucks to have me reinstall my OS(which in turn is a good thing to do every 6 months anyway), then sure. Most people don't even have to do that with their lower end cards and they are still getting better performance for the price over the Nvidia solution. But, if I was buying a high end card it would be Nvidia not ATI. I know Nvidia is what to get in the highend as it usually is the best.

I got it for 75 bucks off Craiglist and all I play is L4D2. It serves that purpose...

Also I have enough money in my bank account to buy your 5970 just for the purpose of deficating on it. I can buy any high end card AND processor I want (hmm how is that e7200 aging for ya?)

Pretty well. As long as devs quit making CPU intensive games, I'm fine until LGA2011.(Crysis 2's a perfect example of a properly optimized game that's more GPU heavy than CPU.) Also, got the card from a friend for lulz, see what the whole deal about Catalyst is about, saw, managed to get it working to a pretty stable state, lazy to get it out of my case since it's pretty much planted in there.

Glad one hiccup didn't keep you from turning away from an entire brand

I would agree that it seems AMD/ATI in general seems to have more issues with their drivers than Nvidia. That is a true statement and would definitely make a rational person pause before jumping to snatch up the latest AMD video card. A healthy dose of skepticism and objectivity is always good when shelling out alot of money.

If the driver stops responding it's likely faulty hardware. My faulty 4850 did that. RMA your card.

If at first you don't succeed, rage at the drivers.

I have owned BOTH Nvidia and AMD cards, each have their own share of problems. Driver or hardware, both have problems.

People need to stop being fanboys and posting worthless garbage, and focus on solving their individual problem, and not boycotting an entire brand over one issue.

RMA your card, it's the best course of action.

So one out of 10 of my AMD setups actually worked.

The only Nvidia driver problem I even had was when I was using hacked drivers ( so really it was my fault ) I've had over 10 different nvidia setups, So one out of 10 of my Nvidia setups had problems.

EDIT:
And lol at all you ATI kids, You know damn well your drivers are sub par.. YOU just refuse to admit that someone else might be better. You pebkac at life

I agree ive installed like 10 for my friends and i must say out of those ten the drivers worked properly only 3 times.... the other 7 i had to intall and uninstall like 6 times to get it to work? Also mess around in CCC
ATI has a really bad software team.
