Extra 6870?

Thread Starter
Hi OCN,

I'm planning on doing an upgrade very soon.
But i'm not sure which graphic card i should get.

I currently have 1 Sapphire 6870 so the cheapest would properply be to get another one of theese and then crossfire them.

I've read alot of bad things about AMD's drivers.
I havnt had any issues my self, with any of my previous AMD cards (4850, 4870x2, 5850, 6870)
But i have never ran crossfire before.

So what would you suggest i should get ?
Atm my plan is to wait for bulldozer to see how it performs.
If it sux ill get SB if not ill buy bulldozer.

Also i replaced the stock cooler with a Swiftech MCW80 so i voided warranty on it, so i think it will be hard to sell.

And a last thing, which case do you think would be best for WC'ing CPU and 2 x Graphic cards?
Corsair 800D or NZXT Phantom? Both looks great (except the NZXT kinda has a kinda-cheap-plastic-feeling/look)

Thanks in advance

The Phantom is awesome, i only got mine the other day but I love it already. As for 6870, the scaling is great (2 of them are considerably faster than a GTX 580). As for drivers, it varies from person to person and sometimes you may have an issue and at other times its user error. I had 2 5770s and 2 5850s and I didn't have any real problems myself, but then there are those who have. Eyefinity would be pretty cool.

The only problem I could see tho is the lack of Vram at that high res which you wont be able to really use any AA or alot of AA

Ive never really used AA, when i set it to more than 2x i think the game looks very blury.
So i suppose that wouldnt matter

Sounds like the phantom is quite good. Ive read alot of reviews on it it looks great.
But the 800D just looks abit more 'roomy'

If you dont really need the option of pumping AA then for eyefinity I would go with x2 6870s

Phantom: 25.74" x 8.74" x 21.32"
800D: 24.00" x 9.00" x 24.00"

This. When running tri-screen, you probably ought to consider cards with 2GB of vRAM and not 1GB. Still, for dual monitors, dual 6870 is an awesome setup.

Sounds like i should get another HD6870 then
Does anyone know if theres some kind of "dual block" for it?
Or do i need to get one for both cards?

I might pick this one: ASUS 27" VE276Q instead of eyefinity.
I just saw an example with 3 x 22" monitors in eyefinity and despite it looks awesome i think the bezels will annoy me very much.

Thanks for all the help and answers

Stop giving this guy bad advice, Two 6970s are not "MUCH" faster than a gtx580. Sometimes its better, Sometimes its worse and sometimes its close. Stick to one good video card.

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/review...onclusion.html

I agree about tri-screen, Why is it taking so long with monitors made for multi-screen that have no bezels.
