120hz vs 60hz for gaming

What's with everyone saying 120hz is so much better than 60hz?

I prefer my Dell Ultrasharp U2410's over any TN panel, every 120hz are TN panel aren't they?

I don't get it, how much smoother can it be? I don't see any lag while gaming with mine (BC2, SC2, CS) etc.. so how MUCH better can it be? : /

Uhh. Where have you seen a 120hz monitor?

Probably haven't even gamed on one. 120hz is pretty useless in most modern titles such as bad company 2, but if you play quake or unreal games, or even competetive gaming, 60hz LCDs are the WORST monitor that you could choose. Even a crap CRT would be better for those fast paced games...

120hz is a huge improvement over 60hz, but since I don't play any games that require it to compete with others, I'd much rather invest in a nice IPS panel.

EDIT: And just because your eyes can't see something, doesn't mean that others can't.

Not sure about gaming (assuming we are talking about LCD TVs) but 60Hz will be OK 95% of the time and you might see some "distortion" (not sure how else to explain it) when watching fast moving action (movies, nature programs, live sporting events).

In games like CSS, for a pro, 120hz is the best thing since sliced bread.

back to subject, i have a 120hz monitor, i see it make a difference if you play graphically demanding games, start up crysis, then come back and repost please, ive played it on both 60hz and 120hz, the 120 got the image up faster, and smoother, the 60hz fell behind in certain areas

I don't see how a 120hz gives me anything better than my 60hz

60 FPS with vsync or even without vsync feels so smooth that I don't see any point in getting 120hz

Also they are pretty overpriced.. arent they

It feels so smooth huh? That's because you only play modern slow paced games... Like BC2

60FPS compared to 120FPS is like 30FPS compared to 60FPS if you play fast paced games. It's just a great experience.

Oh, and you didn't mention where you had used a 120hz monitor. I'm guessing nowhere, since your assumptions sound like assumptions and you didn't state what monitor you had used...

They definitely make a difference. I'm in the market for one right now cuz my 60hz monitor just cant keep up.

Remember, its all personal preference. Some people don't notice it and some do. Some people are fine with it and some are not.
