120hz vs 60hz for gaming - Page 7

It'd be a downgrade to go 120hz IMO. Practically all 120hz panels are TN and they will look like garbage in comparison to your U2410s. And all that for a minimal smoothness difference, since you don't play games where it's really required.

their is a huge difference.. for any one that says no u never had one. fps of flying games or anythign fast moveing is alot better. IN bc2 some on shooting @ u from behind. u can ez spin and shoot and scan the herizen as u spin with out blur , I had a crt for meny years becase lcd where not up to the task. now with 120 hz it can. I had a 28 hanns-g it was Great for how big it was but for fps or fastmoveing games it was crap . the delay on motir would get me killed then i trun off v-scny and on a 28 inch moitor u can see it rip all the time. so i think of 120hz v 60hz is like hifi to 128 kbs mps. some ppl can tell the difference it some cant.

I see, well I only play BC2, BF2, SC2, WoW, CS, some COD promod and thats it, also gonna play BF3 and Diablo III, I guess 60 hz (well not 60hz mainly, but my beautiful IPS colorful monitors will be better for these games since they will look better)

Also I love IPS, anything else pisses me off... especially with Eyefinity, if they are not IPS - colors get completely ruined because of the angle, I don't know how to explain it, but going from TN to IPS was a huge upgrade for me

Kinda done with Quake and stuff like that

Hmmm, I can do that in any game : /

If you want to try a higher refresh rate, most CRT's are capable of 100hz at 800x600 provided you sign the files though windows 7.

Only difference is that the CRT will still likely "feel" better in comparison to an LCD at the same hz/resolution. TN panels still have minor input lag.

there are some panels that have been proven to have 0 input lag, but CRTs will always have better motion clarity because LCDs will always have an order of magnitude greater response time for their pixels to changes states. Heck, TN, the fastest LCD panel, still isn't fast enough to be able to do 120Hz 100% of the time as some color to color changes in pixel states will take longer than 8.3 ms that 120Hz requires, the 2-5ms most TN panels are specified at is the absolute best case scenario, and thus there will always be some degree of image artifacting/ghosting relative to a CRT @ 120Hz

because that the CRT will still trump LCD in motion clarity even at lower refresh rates. I would easily take a high end CRT that could do 1080p or greater @ 100 Hz over a 120Hz LCD if CRTs didn't have so many drawbacks such as size/weight/heat/maintenance.

well higher is always better in my book. People who bash progress are just jealous they can't afford it... I remember people saying the human eye couldn't see more then 24 FPS years back, about the dumbest statement I ever heard. With that said, I prefer better viewing angle and colors of the MVA and IPS panels myself.

Ya, 120 hertz for me is a huge improvement.

Are there any 120hz IPS monitors? If not I will just wait for 120hz IPS (probably next year?) and upgrade to 3x 120hz IPS + Ivy and 7 series or whatever

There aren't any just yet unfortunately. If there were I'd definitely have one, even if it cost me over $1k.
