Need new MoBo, RAM, & CPU

Thread Starter
I think my 750i FTW is fried.. it wont boot, will make long beeping noises, and shows a 'C1' error on the little display built into the board.

If I can't bring it back from the dead, I'm gonna make the jump to windows7.
Unless there is an affordable, more powerful option, my 9800gtx is fine with me.

As for motherboards, I don't need anything fancy, I don't overclock anymore and I won't ever be running sli or crossfire. I would want something that could host a good amount of RAM though, as I do a fair deal of editing onmy computer and I'm finding my current setup got bogged down after a bit. What do you lot recommend that is quality but not overkill on price?

Next, I'd need some decent ram, any suggestions?

Lastly, what are my options on processors? I loved my q6600, but I fear that I won't be able to carry it into the new motherboard, what with different socket interfaces and whatnot. In that case, is there a decently priced cpu that can outperform my q6600?

Much thanks guys, this has been a nagging issue for some time now.

Processors, go for the 1155 SB 2600k.
Or for a few hundred more the i7 950 and a x58 mobo.
Sata3 and all that jaz on both.
The SB is clocked at 3.4ghz (or 3.2 sorry not sure)
And can be o/c'd 2 5ghz if you need it.
But theres recalls on those. Personally I love my i7 950, you could go for a 930 for less $$ If you dont need all that power (:

Ram, get OCZ or kingston (: 1600mhz

My new 2500k runs rings around my old Q6600. Very highly recommended. Go for the 2600k if you use multi-threaded applications heavily.

You'll probably get far more for the money with Sandy Bridge than with an 1156 or 1366 setup. As mentioned earlier, there's a recall on the chipset, so you might have to wait a few weeks to get one.

I'm using an Asus P8P67 PRO and it works fine, but I've also heard very good things about Gigabyte's boards.

i have a X58A-UD5 rev 2.0 for sale for 200 and you can get a nice i7 930 or 950.

Or you could get a SB mobo for around 200 like the P67A-UD4 or one of the ASUS or P67A-GD65 from MSI, and pair it with a 2500k or 2600k.
