Hell I need some advice, I have about $500 to spend on udgrades to my PC...
I want to speed it up but not sure on how to spend my cash... I mainly use this as a gaming machine. Should I get new processor/MB/DDR3 ram, or GTX580, ssd drive, etc...?

Any words of wisdom would be awesome!

I also will be shoping at compusa (local store)

My Current Rig:

Processor
2.20 gigahertz AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-Core 64-bit

Cooling fan
Blue Orb Processor Cooler

Drives
HP DVD Writer 1270d ATA Device

Power Supply
LSP Ultra 750 watt

Case
Cool Master HAF (3 x 230mm 1 x 120mm fans with red LEDS)

Hard Drives
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
160 (7200) boot drive

Video Card
EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX470 (1 gig)

Memory
8 Gigs of ram DDR2

Mother Board
Board: MSI MS-7390 1.0
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz

Operating System
Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)

Thanks
Jason

Definitely a SSD for starters

Phenom II processor
A new cooler may be necessary but won't be expensive
New motherboard (something that has more than 3 phases and supports reliable overclocking)
New DDR3 RAM (if you can't find a decent AM2+ mobo, otherwise you'll be fine)
I'd also spend on a new power supply just for safety depending on that model, some Ultra PSUs are good but some are just utter crap
I'm pretty sure you could fit an SSD as well

EDIT:
Here's one:
Phenom II x4 820 OEM - $105
Most decent DDR2 board on Newegg - ASUS M4A785-M - $80

I highly recommend a true 750W PSU and not some overrated chinese garbage. Or the 650W or 550W versions of TruePower are fine too for single card.

this will depend on what you want in your board. do you want to be able to oc and run more than one gpu.

Not over clocking, but I wouldn't mind have the option to drop in a second GTX470

4core or 6 core?

I know you said CompUsa but i found those on newegg because it is easy. I really don't like compusa's return policy at all. I had some real trouble trying to return a motherboard before. I try to buy at Frys if possible.... they take back anything if you change your mind.... Hope this helps!

Interesting... 16GB RAM!? Overkill! Even with what I do (video editing) 8GB is perfect. I find you never need more. What particular RAM kit though, I hope it's not some garbage generic that needs 1.65V for CL9 or so
