They transitioned their current drives to 25nm without changing the product number. So the people buying say a vertex 2 60GB model were getting less performance and storage capacity without knowing it.

What companies need to start doing is producing larger ssds for the 25nm manufacturing process, and leave 34nm on the smaller ssds. That way, there is no performance loss and/or storage space loss either. Would I be correct by stating that?

SSD's are still out of range for an average user, so the only people who are going to be buying them are enthusiasts. And as an enthusiast, I would honestly prefer higher capacity at the same price.

When I can get a 300gb ssd for around $200-250, I'll be buying another one.

Actually no, you would not be correct. Larger capacity drives still suffer from the same problems when compared to older 34nm drives of same capacity. Either way you look at it 25nm is a downgrade as far as straight NAND is concerned. The flip side of the coin is that newer drives will use newer controllers and more channels to make up the difference. Capacity is simply restored by using more lower-density NAND (32Gb vs. 64Gb for drives 120GB or below). Larger drives do not suffer from capacity issues.
