GTX 460 question

Thread Starter
I bought my GPU at bestbuy because, I didn't feel like buying online.

Well, turns out I am just realizing how much I actually screwed myself.

My mem clock is about 1700MHz stock. Just about all of the ones on newegg are 3000Mhz+, and I can max my mem clock oc with msi bruner.

Question is can I flash the bios of my card with another GTX 460's bios? To get a higher clock? Or is it something else holding my clock speeds back?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133326

im thinking thats the same card. but the casing on mine is shaped different.

If you are at 1700MHz on afterburner it means your effective memory speed is 3400MHz. So there is nothing wrong with the card you have purchased.

Exactly what he said, So if they're 3k you're a little faster than the reference ones you were probably looking at.

My thoughts exactly.
The only way you screwed yourself is by overpaying a crazy amount for a computer part.
You payed near launch price for a 460.

Oh. Well. Can you please explain why it doesn't tell me its at 3400 then..? I don't understand the logic behind this.

It is just the way memory clock (DOUBLE Date Rate) works on this video card. The effective speed is always clock x 2.

ddr memory, double data rate so 1700 = 3400
post #9 of 12
IMO with ddr ram I have always seen that, atleast with graphics cards. My evga 460gtx super clocked card came stock w/ 1900mhz ram speed (3800mhz).

Definitely this. You realize Best Buy GPU prices are inflated to almost 2x the price of places like Newegg/Microcenter/Frys/Amazon.

I'd get my money back if I were you.
