Trying to Hold 4ghz+ with a Q9550 on a DFI DK P45 TR2S

Hello all.. Ive come here because apparently they do not have the DFI forums anymore,or at least I cant find them. I use to get a lot of info from there. Anyway, Ive been running my Q9550 @3804 for around a year now. Every now and then I get an itch to try and get 4mhz out of it. I can get 4mhz to boot and run windows, but if I run prime 95 or run a game I'll get BSOD. Ive toyed around with Vcore and NB volts, but this is the area I get stumped. Below is my sig. If anyone can help me Id greatly appreciate it!! As far as ram, Ive kind gone with settings that I got from someone before.. they dont seem to cause any issues. But one thing Ive noticed that a lot of people use 4g's in stead of 8g while overclocking.
Any questions of me, or if I need to add more info, feel free to ask. Thanks in advance.

Bump these voltages to:

vNB= 1.40V

vFSB= 1.34V

CPU GTL = 0.63x on both lanes..(if you fail in Prime 95 LARGE FFT test then just play with those to stabilize core that errors)..

1. Also I would recommend you to test OC with Prime95 LARGE FFT test for at least 6h but with lowest 6x multiplier to test FSB OC of the system..

2.
If you pass Prime95 LARGE FFT 6h test then upp CPU multiplier to 8.5x and test your 4GHz OC (470 x 8.5) with Intel Burn Test 20 runs to see if there's enoughVcore (if it crashes just add more Vcore and test again)..

3. If you pass those tests then your OC is ROCK SOLID..

Keep your core temperatures under 75C at all time..

Keep your Vcore under 1.40V (under LOAD shown in CPU-Z)

Do not go over 1.45V for vNB and 1.40V for vFSB for 24/7 OC..

CHEERS..

Thanks King,

So, you recommend using a 6x multiplier with higher fsb than the 8x or 8.5x? I will play with the voltages. But with my current settings I do get near 70c during crysis or prime stress testing. But from what I understand, thats not much a threat with the Q9550.

Ive tried raising my NB to 1.40v, and my cpu vtt to 1.34 @ 8.5x 475. I can get to boot to windows, but fails after a few seconds in prime95.

If I change the cpu gtl to 0.63x system wont even boot past logo screen.

If I try @8x 500 wont boot into windows either.

Somethings holding me back, but Im not sure what it is. Dont know if its a lack of voltage, or something else. The DFI boards although powerful, are def not for moderate OC'r experienced. Ive seen great results with my chip and board by other users, and its probably like one setting holding me back lol. What is opinions on 8g vs 4g of ram. could 8g of ram be holding me back?

Take a look at this http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...t12459388.html

See if you can find some settings, tips or links you can use for your setup

Try to boot with my settings with 6x multiplier and 470MHz FSB..

If it doesn't fail w/ 6x multiplier and 470MHz FSB then you need to use more vcore with 8.5x multiplier and 470MHz FSB..

Ive been working at this today.. but cant get stable.. I can boot into windows no problem. 1.44 on nb, and 1.40 on vtt. but cant complete a cycle in prime, or occt. I actually went all the way through 3dmark06 without any problems. This thing just doesnt like 4ghz. Doesnt matter if I do 8.5x or 8x to reach 4ghz... at least now it boots to windows no problem.. but cant handle stress.
What else should I try?

Like I have said try with 6x multiplier (6 x 470MHz FSB) to avoid being held by Vcore and to test if vNB and vFSB are OK for that FSB..

If it's OK with 6x multiplier then upp it to 8.5x and upp Vcore more as Vcore is cousing your rig to crash..

And whant do you mean by Can't handle stress??

Does your PC crashes/BSOD's in Prime95 or just errors?

If it just errors in Prime95 then play with CPU GTL's..

CPU GTL 0/2 are for 1st and 3rd core (tune it if those core error in Prime95 LARGE FFT test)..

CPU GTL 1/3 are for 2nd and 4th core (tune it if those core error in Prime95 LARGE FFT test)..

Tunning a CPU GTL's are matter of trial and error..

CHEERS..
