Thread Starter
I've got my new card installed and working. I was just wondering if the following results seem normal because its bloody hot! (see Attachment) I've got 6 fans and was wondering what the best way to cool this card because I want to overclock it.

I would love to watercool my whole PC I wouldn't know where to start! I'd need a double loop I think that's about all i know.

Nope you wouldn't need a double loop. You would be just fine with a single loop.

Your temperature looks just fine for a air cooled GTX 480. There isn't much you can do besides that.

It's hot in Furmark, but for real life temperatures run 3DMark 11 loop or Crysis benchmark loop..

My GTX480 @ 850/1025MHz w/ 1075mV hits over 95C in Furmark but in Crysis/3DMark 11/Ungine heaven never hits over 85C with my custom fan profile that ramps up at 85% at that temp..

Here's a screen shot of Warhead bench temps..

CHEERS..

You'll want to manually control the GPUs fan speed. By default, the card won't ramp up the fan speed until temps get quite hot. From the screenshot, your fan speed topped out at ~61%, which is fairly low for a GTX480 under 100% load which is why your temps are fairly high

Perfectly normal for the 480. Yours actually seems a bit cooler than most. Mine hit 100 in Furmark before I stopped it.

I'd say this is a pretty normal temp for a 480 or even a little bit cooler than average. What's your vid? Mine has a 1.05 vid and was definitely hotter than yours with the reference cooler on.

yours will probably never go much above 80 while gaming with 75% fan (which isnt too loud).

You can buy an aftermarket cooler for it. The best one for these cards i know of is Arctic Cooling accelero plus..http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/assistant/vga/chip/103

I've got one on my 470, and playing crysis with the very high mod, i can't get my card above 60ºc! And that's in a heavy firefight when a lot is going on. Awesome cooler, i can't even here it on high over my case fans.

I can't stand the noise the stock fan makes over 70%...it's loud! The stock cooler isn't bad, but the fan sucks big time. Way too noisy. i use msi afterburner and game with my card oc'd and overvolted to 800c/1600shader/1674mem(stock) @1000mV (core voltage), stock is .937mV.

You'll love it. Your ears will love you for it...lol.
