I was thinking what happens when we die besides for rotting and turning into dirt or getting cremated. It would be cool if that happened. Watch somebody still remember everything from their old life.

I think the fact that we haven't been contacted by aliens is proof that intelligent life exists.

There are still people who think this world and everything inside it were put here just for them.

We know more about evolution that we do about gravity, but nobody questions gravity.

If they are advanced enough to be zipping around the universe in flying saucers, why would they even stop at this backwater planet ruled by apes who can not get along with each other, and do nothing but constantly try to kill each other.

There is by our thought process only 2 reasons to be a space fearing civilization. 1 is to conquer and the other is for knowledge. If aliens haven't come to conquer us and we have nothing to offer intellectually, simply putting it if they are that far past us in advancements what would we have to offer as a peoples? Answer: Nothing

If they are anything like us, then yes, that and our inherit need to "reach out" and and connect with someone or something should be present in other beings as well.

500 million habitable zone worlds out of 50 billion, that's 1%. Minus the amount of worlds that don't have conditions to support life. Minus the amount of worlds that do not support complex organisms, something that could be classified as an animal. Minus the amount with no intelligent life...

Seems like there would only be maybe a few thousand "intelligent" beings out there. With as vast as the galaxy is, even with the ability to traverse enormous distances maybe the chances of intelligent life finding one another are astronomical (pun entirely intended). A few thousand beings aware of their place in the universe among 150 billion stars. Sigh...

That's to assume they are like us mentally. I mean what are the odds of that? Its easy for us to think of them being like us somehow because that is what we are familiar with.

Realistically it could be more like HP Lovecraftian "cosmic horror" in that the real truth and scariness is that other life out there is so different than us we can't truly comprehend them.

I personally subscribe more to the Rare Earth Hypothesis that does use an extrapolation of the Drake Equation.

Other worthwhile points are that if intelligent life that uses technology of some sort is out there why can't we find them? Either they have all stayed in their solar systems and died (scary) or they are just ignoring us that well which would be quite amazing seeing as any life would probably explode in population once it could colonize. We can detect a lot of stuff in the EM band out there. I'd think we would have heard something by now. And sure the galaxy is huge. But its been around for a long time. We have only been around in the blink of an eye as far as the universe is concerned, but in a few more blinks we could be on other planets (providing we don't kill ourselves) the way technology is advancing. So that still leaves a LOT of time for another species to have already done this.

But its all debateable conjecture. tongue.gif

I bet there's some xenomorphs out there somewhere. I think there's evidence of 'visitors'. The universe is so massive it's beyond our comprehension.
