Need guidance on OC (955 @ 3.8 so far)

This is only my second OC (first time being able to adjust voltages). Specs are in sig rig. Here's where I'm at so far:

(200 x 19) 3.82 GHz
vcore in bios: 1.459v
vdrop (idle in windows): 1.452v
vdroop (load): no lower than 1.392v
ambient: ~25C
idle: 36-39C (depending on ambient)
load: ~52-53C (up to 54C in linx)

I had to disable LLC once I passed 1.4v. I was getting high voltage spikes (e.g. voltage set to 1.41, spikes around 1.47) which was heating up my chip unnecessarily. My board has no LLC % config, just on, off, or auto.

I have run 20 passes of Linx and an hour of prime blend and it passed (this is just initial testing of course). My goal was 3.8GHz, which I'm at, but I don't know what to do next. Push for 3.9? I read that increasing reference clock gives a better overall increase in performance rather than multi, but also read this is negligible. but i know increasing NB has the greatest effect. should i bump down the multi and try to start raising the ref. clock (of course taking into account ram, ht, etc.)? or should i keep testing this for stability first?

any help appreciated, thanks

For 24x7 use, 3.8GHz is pretty good, if you OC further you wont see any real life performance benefit... just higher benchmark scores... not to mention higher temps. All you have to do now is to increase the cpu-nb. Set it around 2600/2700mhz with cpu-nb voltage around 1.3/1.35v (depending upon your chip). No need to push fsb right now, if you are not going to OC more.

ok thanks. i will keep testing this for another couple days to make sure it's stable/tweak if necessary and then start playing with the NB. (i like taking it slow).

i did a quick run of 4ghz 200x20. i need at least 1.5vcore in bios and temps were at 55C within 30 seconds on linx so i don't feel the need for that extra 200mhz.

one question i have though is to get from 3.7 to 3.8 i needed to bump vcore from 1.415v to 1.459v. do you think that extra 100mhz is enough to warrant that increase in vcore?

thanks

Yeah its fine, it might look like a sudden bump but during fine tuning this period appears before almost everyone. Its nothing to be worried about. I should also add that your core speed and voltage are pretty much in sync. Go ahead with the stress testing and when you are comfortable with it, increase the cpu-nb as I mentioned earlier ( it increases the memory bandwidth by considerable margin).
Decision on not pursuing 4GHz for daily use is also correct. Best of luck.
