Test an RMA? Just install the CPU as normal and if you have any problems request another RMA. You shouldn't really try running your CPU without cooling even for a minute or so. Five minutes without cooling? Your system will shutdown long before then.
Explained in the simplest way, with all the positive and negative states within the CPU circuits and how often these changes excess energy is expelled in the form of heat. The fact that CPU's get quite hot quickly is an indicator as to exactly how much goes on inside them for something so small.
Thank you very much...that was comprehensive enough...I was installing my i5 2500 k and posted without a cooler and when I got to the bios it was outrageously hot! Then I just turned it off
