If I was that desperate to try it out without putting in much effort, I would at least put on the heatsink without TIM. But really, I wouldnt even really want to do that.

I had a waterblock that was being spaced too far by the spacers, I was rattling my brain as to why it was failing after about 15 seconds I thought there was a short or the pcI slot was damaged, when I took the block off I saw the thermal paste untouched.. Took out the plastic washers and off she goes again no problems still does it. 1250 mhz Overclock (hd 7950) no ddamage done... But I couldn't even load default bios setting in the time it took to fail without the waterblock contact.. So I cinsider myself lucky don't even boot to test without a heatsink touching your gpu

I tried this with 1800+ Duron? Don't remember exact model. Smoked in about 3-5 sec. But after that it was still working (with HS of course biggrin.gif)
