Any future 6 Core I5 processors?

Thread Starter
Since I made my recent DIY upgrades, its been about number of cores

Until mid December 2008 - single core
December 2008/December 2009 - x2 4800 dual core
December 2009 - Q9550S

The next mobo upgrade will be a 6 core one but AMD's 6 core processors are not that much better from what I have now and Core I5's can beat them sometimes

Will there ever be a Core I5 hexacore? if so that should be my next upgrade in December, whether this one or 2012 or later

Highly doubtful.

It's highly possible and likely guaranteed at some point. As processors shrink, becoming cheaper and more energy efficient, more cores will ultimately creep in. How soon? That's a crap shoot right now. I don't know of anything in Intel's immediate (1-2 year) roadmap that has hex-core i5 processors. But if anyone would like to prove me wrong, I'd be more than happy to accept any and all new information

Really hinges on Ivy Bridge and whether or not it will be compatible with socket LGA 1155.

An LGA 1155 6 core Ivy Bridge would be so much win.
