6950 vs 5870 - Page 2

If I were you I would go Gtx 570; I came from a 5870 and wow what a difference this card makes. Everything seems to run smoother.

Just get the cheapest one. They are all pretty much the same but with different brand stickers on them.

That Sapphire that you linked is only the 1GB model, you won't be able to unlock it.
HD 6950 is a good 5-10% faster then HD 5870 and has more room for driver improvements + it can be unlocked and has much better DX11 performance. DX9/10 they are very close.

ive decided to go with HIS H695F2G2M Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP

its cheaper than the 5870

i have two of these beasts coming for crossfire.

,.... if size is a issue (length) , but power isnt. just get two 6580 crossfire them, youll have the same if not better performance then a single 6950 card. and the 6580s arent any longer then a standard atx board. (6 series xfire scaling is a lot closer to 100% if not at 100%

thats just me

thats my 6580. cools very nice hardly ever hear it.

OK, here's the reality. I'll be posting an article on this very soon, but here's the gist of it. Being able to unlock a 6950 to a 6970 is nice and all, but what most people don't realize is that most of the 6970's advantage is purely clock speed. Take Crysis: Warhead (using my own benchmarks) on very high quality @ 1080p (the result for high quality are about the same)...

stock 6970 (880/1375) is 11.5% faster than a stock 6950 (800/1250).

clock for clock stock 6970 (880/1375) is 2% faster than the overclocked 6950 (880/1375).

overclocked 6950 (920/1375) is <1% faster than a stock 6970 (880/1375)

overclocked 6970 (920/1375) is <2% faster than a overclocked 6950 (920/1375)

In case you missed it, unlocking the shaders gives you a whopping 2% performance increase. Overclocking the 6950 gave me a 12% increase, while unlocking and overclocking gave me a 14% increase.

Stay tuned for my full post with benchmarks backing up my claims.
