My Single Core PC Seems faster than my x3 core PC - Page 3

Mismatched ram? Open three instances of CPU-Z. Open them to the CPU tab, memory tab and SPD tab and then use Snipping Tool to take a screenshot and post it here (Use Go Advanced, Manage Attachments). Might help in the diagnosis. I don't think that the SATA 1 drive is an issue. I have a friend who uses a SATA 1 drive with Windows 7 without issue.

I wish, but no. Your speed is being held back by the harddrive. Even more so now that you have faster hardware, the lag between the faster parts and the drive is more noticeable.

and it's defo not because my HT Link is low? 1000mhz?

Considering HT at 1 Ghz can still provide 8 GB/sec worth of bandwidth, no.

Memorys are different ;/, I bought 2x2gb extra value memory from ebuyer, again i went for them because they had brilliant reviews. ebuyer sent me 2 different brands of memory, also one singled sided and one double sided memorys.

I will post the screenshot tomorrow as i'm not home at the moment.

I agree with the general concensus that your old HD + change in os is the culprit

Dual or single sided memory doesn't matter as far as performance goes

Any tests you do on both systems that measure cpu or encoding the x3 will kill the single core. Maybe general booting/browsing you can't tell the extra power as that doesn't stress a single core

On my dual core it takes 30 min to a hour to convert a DVD to mp4, on my q6600 takes maybe 15-20 min

But i first tryed the same os as my old pc ( windows xp 64bit ) and it was slow so i installed windows 7, same result. This is why i had ruled out HDD. It's also the same HDD as my old pc.

It pretty much has to be the hard drive...nothing else really affects loading times. The only time something else will affect it is if your cpu is ridiculously slow or you have a tiny amount of RAM, neither of which is the case.

XP 64 bit is horrid for driver support

Windows 7 should work as well on the new system as the old system. Unless you have all the optional controllers on auto looking for drives (I disable my onboard controllers that are not hooked to anything)

Yep, get a new harddrive. Had a similar slowness feeling with my old 250GB SATA 1 HDD I used.
