Anyone still play this game? biggrin.gif I found it on Steam about a year ago and have finally found a tactics game that is worthy of challenging me. So far, I've got a trio of bases and the entire world loves me. biggrin.gif

To be honest, I never really found X-COM all that good. Mainly due to the soldiers being good-for-nothing squint-eyed morons who soil their pants and turn insane when the situation gets ugly. Jagged Alliance ftw! smile.gif

That's why you nit-pick all the ones that have the highest bravery, Strength, Endurance, etc. I spent like the first half month just buying soldiers and firing the ones who had crappy stats. So now I have a bunch of Ex-Special Forces personnel who carry plasma guns and wear flying powered armor. Essentially the closest thing to Space Marines that you can get in the game. biggrin.gif

You need to hire a load of soldiers, and fire them based on their stats. They start of pretty weak, but eventually they turn into bad asses. For my last game I had this uber female soldier who was a crack shot. At the start of the mission she would just leave the ship and fly straight up. I had two squads to sweep the buildings, and she would just pick off doods from the far side of the map. To stop people going crazy, you need a psychic sponge. Someone with absolutely awful psychic ability, this insures this person is always the one who gets attacked. Needless to say, this person dosent carry any weapons. My guy happened to be called Shigeru Kojima. I like to think that he was driven crazy because he was the fusion of two game designers minds... he (they?) did end up quite good at running though.

And yes OP, if you like XCom. You will definitely like Jagged Alliance. Grab Jagged Alliance 2 here, and install the fan made v1.13 patch found here. Its easily one of the best games I have ever played.

I tried XCom, but there was no tutorial and nothing made sense to me, so I quit. I kind of want to have fun, not spend several hours learning how to play a game well before I can have fun.

xcom was great.

There also UFO series which is similar to those games.

They have a 3d remake of jagged alliance 2 being made right now.

There is also hired guns, jazz which are the same type of game.
