Comparing Laptops (HP dv6-3160us vs dv6-3143us) vs ASUS A52F-XE3

First off, I'm really not much for a hardware guy. So, looking at the three, the first looks pretty good to me. What is the difference between the i3 and AMD Phenom II Quad-Core. Quad-core sounds good. but I'm not sure how that compares to the i3. What "core" is the i3. Can you guys help me make a solid decision on this? Anyway what do you guys think?

(oh btw I develop software and am In school now and need a decent computer which is reliable and also play games in my spare time.)

Get either of the HPs. I reckon the Phenom Quad will be stronger overall than the Core i3, but the Core i3 has faster core for core performance afaik.

Can't go wrong with either HPs. HD 5650 will do medium level gaming graphics. The ASUS one has Intel graphics which is junk.

So I just heard that the HP DV6-3000 is a series to stay away from and has been having problems. Anyway what other laptops would you guys recommend? Mid range to upper range staying sub $1000.

I've had the Mobility HD5650 in my acer laptop for about a year now. It does more than "Medium" gaming. It's great. I can even play GTA IV at decent settings while I'm "Working."

Also the Mobility HD5650 is the same as the 5730; just downclocked, so if you have a decent cooling you can just OC the card up to 5730 specs without spending the extra $100.

Coming from an authorized HP repair person, please don't buy an HP consumer-grade laptop. If you need a laptop, buy an EliteBook or ProBook. They have better warranty and more durable parts.

I will second this. The only things that have a 100% failure rate at my work are emachines (desktop or laptop) and HP laptops. So different than HP servers which are amazingly reliable and durable ( probably because HP doesn't make them)
