I think you guys are too up with the brands..

Thread Starter
So, way back when before I bought my sig rig, (my first build, and it has been upgraded since, see below) you guys nearly KILLED me for buying my Rosewill 500-500w powersupply. Consistently told me it was trash, and it wouldn't last more than a month. Not only was I told it would not last a month, I was told the PSU might actually kill my entire rig.

Well. Here I am 5 months later. With a 4Ghz O.C, 4 Spinpoint F3's in Raid 5, 8GB DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws, and a GTX 460 with a mild O.C.

I was told to NOT O.C ANYTHING and that I would be pushing the bar way to far with this PSU. I was also told not to run benchmarks, like Furmark. Well, I am here to tell the tale of running my PSU running Furmark SO MANY time with my PSU. I think you guys jump on the Brand Band Wagon too fast. You can sit here all day and tell me my PSU is junk, but I wont believe you.

Rosewill maybe Newegg's branding, but I can sit here and tell you, this is a decently quality PSU, for a cheap price, and it does everything some people on OCN said it couldn't. Now before you all jump on the, KARMA will come at you hard, well I just bought a new PSU, and gave my rosewill to my brother for his lower end machine as his powersupply died the other day.

Maybe its luck, maybe its not. But I can tell you this, I was misinformed, and not only was I misinformed, I was insulted for buying this PSU for my rig.

Wasn't going to post this.. but I decided too. The Rosewill 500 500w PSU is a good PSU. This post was not to trash people here on OCN, believe me, I greatly appreciate all the help, and all the knowledge I have gotten by just coming here on a daily basis. I just think people shouldn't overlook Rosewill PSU's, and products in general because its the stores brand.

Every opinion, and nearly every adjective, is relative.

You better knock on wood.

But seriously a lot of people especially the experts love to knock my PSU but it's just fine even with all the redundancy and it has OCP.

Also this.

Rosewill's reputation as a bad PSU brand certain precedes them. That is because a couple of years ago, they used Deer PSUs which were utter trash. Hence, they have switched to different OEMs, I believe ATNG is one of them.

Newer Rosewill units are actually pretty decent and I will never hesitate to recommend them to budget minded computer builders.

When did you build? I've put a stop to most of that. The RV2 series is mediocre, but not terrible.

Rosewill got a bad rap for their first few series, where they used terrible Deer and Youngyear units that were basically the bottom of the barrel trash you here horror stories about.

Now they've reformed and use ATNG, Sirfa, and a little bit of Solytech (which is Deer's parent company, but Deer is their cheap branch).

They range from mediocre to pretty solid. Nothing fantastic, but aside from a few ATNG ATX1.3 units they aren't that bad.

Another thing to remember is that just like bad experiences with a brand, good ones are also not a good sample size. So while you may be doing just fine does not mean that everyone in your situation would be fine. Brand loyalty (or disloyalty) can be misguided but when you can actually know the internals of the product and their quality, brand becomes less important.

No, this is a different one that's a bit worse, but still not really bad.

You say you upgraded your PSU. I would assume, with your amazing experience with such a "great" brand, and their very low prices, you purchased another Rosewill PSU, correct? If not, and if you went with a higher priced PSU, you are a hypocrite IMO.
