WD 2TB Caviar Black WD2001FASS vs. WD2002FAEX

Thread Starter
I'm running out of space and am in need of purchasing a new mass storage drive while I dedicate my current 1TB Caviar Black for games..

So, what's the difference between these two besides one supporting SATA 6Gbp/s and the other SATA 3Gbp/s?

I checked the WD official site and found no difference in their specifications page.

I found a deal for the WD2001FASS at 120$. Should I go for it or wait for a FAEX deal to come out?

Thanks in advance!

just go with the SATA 3GB/s one, HDDs are not fast enough to benefit from a SATA 6GB/s anyways so there is no point in paying more for one that works on SATA 6GB/s.

If the specs on both of the drives are the same then that just makes me recommend the 3GB/s even more!

I'm aware of that but the two products in concern are like 2 years apart when they were released o_O

Are there any considerable performance bumps between them? E.g. platter numbers, headers, etc. I don't know, I just got to research about hard drives as I started building my computer.

Thanks for the quick reply though!

They both get roughly the same performance and they both cost almost identically the same. So may as well just buy the newer 2002faex one.

I had a WD2001FASS and it had a bug with games and movies where it freezes up for a second then carries on as normal but it will do it again and so on...

So I bought the WD2002FAEX and couldn't be more happier with it.

End of the day it's up to you.

I too installed that on mine but the stuttering still continued.
