[Help] I'm new to overclocking!

Hi
I'm trying to overclock my system with NVIDIA System Tools. The startup menu doesn't have these options so I don't see how else I could do it.

Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600+
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
300w Power supply (cruddy, I know)
no idea what mobo im usin

anyways, I'm trying to figure out what a safe clock speed would be...

defaults:
HT bus speed was 201 with 12x multiplier for CPU
2500MHz PCIe clock slot 1 on mobo
for the gpu:
core at 576 MHz
memory at 750 MHz
shader at 1300 MHz

I tried overclocking without any help and my comp crashed 3 times.
first time, it just turned off
second time, it froze and i had to hold down the restart button
third time i got bsod

thanks for reading,

Learn how to OC in the BIOS and not use software.
Software OC'ing is usually unstable.

,

clik restart / immediately "tap" delete key until BIOS screen appears.
Main menu should have some info on that.
