Hey guys Zothos here and it's been long over due for me to get my new PSU and i recently just placed an order for an OCZ ModXStream Pro Power Supply - 700-Watt, Modular, Dual +12V Rails, SATA, 80Plus New for only $79.99 and comes with a $20 mail in rebate!!! So my question is that is this sufficient for my components is it too much or too little well it shouldn't be too little especially when im using a 500 Watt dual 12 volt rail psu at the moment.

My components are as followed i have an ASUS P7P55D-E motherboard, 3-320Gb Seagate Sata II 7200 rpm hard drives in raid-0 22x Lite-On Dvd burner, XFX HD 5770 XXX Edition Oc'ed @980/1380Mhz, 2-1Gb DDR3 1333Mhz Dual channel oc'ed @1600Mhz, Intel Core i3 530 Oc'ed @4.5Ghz 1.44v, Corsair H50 Liquid Cpu Cooler, 2x 120mm fans, 4x 80mm fans...

And i also wanted to know if anyone had used this PSU and how is it for Overclocking is it worth the price it just seems a little cheap but it seems like it's a good overclocking psu??

Thanks in advance!!! :-)

So you ordered it...and THEN came to ask if you wasted your money?

That PSU is not on the Recommended PSU list, and its crazy overkill unless you go tri-fire, but if memory serves its not a "bad" unit.
You did waste $20+ though.
You dont need more than a 400 watt PSU for your setup. And chances are you are loosing efficiency by being that far overkill.

Yea i actually already bought it a few hours ago and now im asking about it lol i know i just had to do it fast before my wife switched her mind lol :-) and you sure its overkill because the 500 watt psu im using now just cant handle when i hit 5Ghz or more on the i3 and when i try going over 1900Mhz on the ram. I'm hopin that more wattage will let me do a little more overclocking on my cpu, ram and graphics card!!

Thanks for replying!!

I wouldn't recommend that PSU because it is kind of crappy. But it will still be able to easily handle those components. You will have a lot of room to upgrade.

You can find great deals on OCZ refurbs. I've used them many times for builds for friends, etc. I've never had one fail.

Thats not your power supply faltering at 5Ghz. No way its your PSU.
You do have a pretty crummy 500Watt unit...but I seriously doubt its the problem.
The reason you cant hit 5Ghz is probably your motherboard or RAM.

Keep in mind though.
I am not a power supply expert.

You gain on efficiency for having more head room, not lose it.. I agree its over kill but that is the best kill

It will be good because i do plan on upgrading for alot more ram and a couple more hard drives and another 5770 for crossfire and a blu-ray drive so it wont be overkill after then....

and i might upgrade to the Corsair H70 cpu cooler also :-)

Uh.. not really. My system draws about 200w when benchmarking in furmark and prime95. Prime efficiency is about 60% depending on the unit and that is only going to get worse with more wattage. Not to mention most people don't keep their PC at load during most operations.

A good 500w would handle that fine. And it doesn't sound to me like it's the PSU at fault for that OC instability, thats a pretty high OC. If anything you should have gone for a PSU with excellent ripple on the 12v rail as that would have give you more stable voltage with a lower chance of lockups. Quality over quantity.
