Folding issue

Thread Starter
Ok, so after I've been folding for any amount of time and I turn off the computer or restart it.... it starts power cycling and I have to clear the cmos and reset oc. Now it's COMPLETELY stable... I can fold bigadv wu's for 4 days straight without a hiccup. BUT the instant I restart the machine, it goes bonkers. Anyone have any idea why this may be, as it's almost turned me away from folding now. Any help appreciated.

folding shouldnt have anything to do with the pc going crazy from a restart sounds like motherboard or a cpu issue.

but it isn't. I have removed all the folding stuff and can restart and shut off my computer all I want. I have run prime blend over night for 13 hours, immediately shut it off, and it powered right back up. Immediately restarted, just fine.

I just put f@h back on, ran it for only 3 minutes, went to restart.......... cycles. IT's definitely the f@h applications. Any idea why, assuming it is?

Try it again (run fah then ctrl-c it and restart) but leave it to idle at the desktop for a minute and see if you have the same problem.

f@h stresses the cpu more than p95

I realize that, but I ran bigadv for 76 hours straight? No errors, no bsod, matter of fact I was playing bfbc2 during 5 of those hours. Not a single hitch. But the moment I turn the computer off, it power cycles as if a failed oc has occured, and I have to clear cmos, put in settings again and return to desktop. After such a cycle, if I power off the machine again or restart... same thing. I have to clear cmos and NOT fold again to make it stop. If I fold for even 1 second (tested) same deal.

I know this isn't the problem but when i get "overclock unstable, please enter setup" I just enter the setup, press escape, and exit without saving.

and this is really really baffling me. Have you tried letting it idle at desktop before you shutdown?

I THINK I have, but I'm not sure. It happened more than once, but I cannot remember if I shut down the clients, and immediately restarted machine or if I ever waited a little bit. Can restarting RIGHT after a shutdown cause this? Has this happened to anyone but me?

As I said, I'm about as certain as a person can be that it's not an unstable oc, as I was folding bigadv client AND gaming for 72 hours with no problems. It just seems folding causes an issue after restarting machine. It would fold forever I assume without an issue if I never restarted machine, but as soon as I do, time to clear cmos and re enter settings.

I'm thinking is a mobo issue.

How is that? I mean I am not saying that it couldn't be, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my little mind around what is actually happening. What do you suppose is the motherboard doing? It runs great until restart after folding. Runs great after 1100 restarts after NOT folding.
