Captivate -->Desire Z?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about selling my Captivate for a Desire Z/G2
cause swype though its awesome is sometimes really annoying to use when I'm on chat or editing documents on the go.... i do lots of typing

convince me....

Pros and Cons of moving from captivate

Pros:
Physical Keyboard
same resolution (800x480)
Native Froyo without screwing with custom ROMs
GPS that works

Cons
3.7" screen
Not a Super-Amoled screen
less powerful SoC

Try out the Gingerbread keyboard(yes it works for froyo), I really prefer it to swype
and the custom 2.2 roms are usually better than stock anyway

I have it and its awesome coming from blackberry. Just need getting used to with the wide keyboard. There's nothing like typing on a physical keyboard.

what ROM's are there for it?
Are you on AT&T? The Desire Z won't have 3G. That's a big one for some (unless there is a new Desire Z model with new radios). Also, the SoC's are nearly identical power wise.

For me, the captivate's screen wins it for me. I'd use custom roms on both, and GPS ended up being decent in the latest froyo roms for me.

The lack of SAMOLED is actually an advantage here. You say you do a lot of typing? Text looks about half the resolution on an AMOLED screen as it does on a regular IPS, since AMOLED screens don't have pixels.

The Desire Z will have better colors and much sharper text. The only con is the black levels.

Cyanogenmod 7 (Gingerbread) should be out in the near future.

What's bugging you about swype? I haven't experienced any bugs recently and there's gingerbread skins out there if you don't like the stock one.

The whole experience has been a pleasure to type with.

If its not going to cost you too much, I think the upgrade would be worth it in your case.

I'm running unlocked in Hong Kong
If i end up using 3G i can get HSUPA speeds (little green H appears instead of the 3G icon)

hmm yeah i know
i'm also thinking about the screen size decrease
i love my 4" screen and downgrading to a 3.7" seems a little stupid

are there going to be any new 4"+ slider phones in the near future? I would get the Samsung Epic but it only works on CDMA darn it
