Well I have $500(give or take.), and I am unsure if I should get a DDR3 MOBO/RAM/PSU or SSD/GPU/PSU. Is is for my SIG RIG, for now I have the funds and the upgrade bug. just which way?

Choice One:
-GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H
-Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB DDR3 1866
-CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX

$506.21

Choice Two:
-OCZ Agility 2 3.5" 90GB SSD
-EVGA GTX 460 SC 768MB
-CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX

$555.14

Thank you.

Upgrade to DDR3 if you have the funds to do it. You'll be greatly future proofing yourself in all honesty. DDR2 is dead, period. My sig rig listed below will hopefully if everything goes correctly will be finished in May, and I literally can't wait.

I'm a few bucks away from ordering my DDR3, should have it within the next few days.

DDR2 is still absolutely fine for everyday tasks and gaming....i dont know how you can say its dead...

DDR3 is great but an SSD is way better...you will actually notice the performance difference there. DDR3 will be pretty useless if you do normal stuff, AKA not benchmarking.

Wait a few weeks for AM3+ and upgrade to that instead.

Your rig is decent enough that I would just buy an SSD and save the rest.

I would say go ahead and get your second choice first. Then save up and upgrade to a better motherboard and ddr3 later down the road.

With all the latest boards and CPUs, DDR2 is fading away. Maybe dead was a poor choice of words, but it's certainly not great anymore.

I didn't think that AMD is releasing a new socket.(new CPU yes.) I will get the just the SSD/PSU for now.(my LSP HAS to go. Maybe I will use it for a door stop.) and keep that $200 for the new MOBO.

Thank you for the help.

I get a lot of enjoyment working with socket 775 cpus and DDR2 RAM (both called dead end hardware). really what event has to happen before the fat lady sings here? Myself I would think if DDR2 became hard to get or really pricey or some fantastic app just did not work unless you were running DDR3 (hard to envision that) before I would call it quits. I know a good example RAMBUS RAM, now that dog is dead.

Definitely #2. #1 is honestly just a sidegrade, while #2 is a true upgrade. It seems like you are only going DDR3 for the sake of going DDR3. Go for #2 or save up even more. For #2, you can just reuse the SSD and power supply in a future build with Ivy/Sandybridge or Bulldozer. No point in getting AM3 when AM3+ is right around the corner.
