Any kind of autorun would fail too since WINE doesn't handle that.

In short, unless you run into a DOS-era hard drive wiping virus, getting infected even through root wouldn't do much. Even then, DOS isn't POSIX-compliant so little damage would be done.

I don't think you understand the concept quite well... Wine is designed to run ANY windows program regardless of what it is. The problem is that windows security holes aren't linux ones, and if the same hole existed the code is different making you hack it differently (new virus).

Yea... Paint doesn't work in WINE. (Most of the Paint versions anyway). You get errors about missing DLLs, and if you try and replace those DLLs with actual windows ones it usually doesn't work.

I'm not sure if you fully understand the concept. WINE is not an emulator. Its not a virtual machine. Its a compatibility layer.

Viruses work by attacking system files. Those system files are not present in a WINE environment. Instead there are dummy files that translate Windows system calls to Linux ones.

If a virus goes any replaces one of the dummy files with an infected copy of an actual Windows system file chances are it will crash WINE.
