Windows Crashes when Moving or Copying large data

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,,,

I am facing serious problem with my Rig..

I see these crashes only when I am doing two things..

1. When Moving or copying Large data (ex. More than 15GB)..

2. When I am watching Movies...

Rest I can guarantee systems runs Rock Solid. Like Bencmarking or stress softwares)..

Previously with OC only it used to happen i thought it might be the low volts.. But Recently It even started to crash running at stock. This became quite frequent now-a-days...

Linq,Prime or any other at stock or OC... Runs rock Solid with controlled Temps. Similarly with encoding or decoding, Compressions.. etc ...The system never crashes and runs as long as the system on..

System crashes right away if i do above tasks mentioned in two reasons..

When watching Video,, It restarts with Blue screen strangely with no error code...
When copying or moving it crashes with no Blue screen at all... If i uncheck "Automatically restart when crash" the Raid or non-Raid OS gets corrupted and won't boot into OS..

The windows event logs show nothing except "system Shutdown unexpected something like that but no specific errors before that time."

Myself consider 6 out of 10 scale in Hardware or software knowledge.Been running systems for last 10 years.. Done gazillion system assembles or network infra-structure.. Unfortunately i couldn't figure this problem or say don't exactly have to time test thoroughly.

These are the remedies i tried to run....

1. Changed Hard Drives (only OS not Other HDD)
2. Changed RAMS
3. Re seat Heat sink (Though i think it's not CPU becoz of stress tests runs quite successful)..
4. Checked Non-Raid Setup with same and Different HDD.
5. Checked RAID setup with same and different HDD.
6. Updated Bios or downgraded BIOS.
7. Tried different RAM volts and QPI/RAM volts..
8. Ran memtest and waitied till 2 passses. (That's the best i could get in my Leisure time)...
9. Ran Seagate and WD hard drive tools to see any errors.. NONE is the answer.
10. Updated Seagate HDD firmware from CC38 to CC48..

Somehow I feel it could be two things..
1. mobo sata ports (gone bad even it's new)
2. One of the HDD is going wrong with setup..

What i didn't tried till now ?
1. Different Mobo (unfortunately, you know it's not easy to get spare mobo)
2. I thought to remove all the HDD and test only one by one and each use it for 2 or 3 days.... then add one by one together....

Before i do i want some opinions or help from you Guys.... So Please guide me to sort out the problem.

Modes Tested like this.....
Setup 1
2x500 GB or 2x250GB sata seagate... RAID 0

Setup 2..
1x500Gb non raid Mode

Rest same whatever the setup i tried...
2x 1TB Seagate 7200.12 rpm NoN-raid
2x 1TB WD green NoN-raid
1x 1TB WD External HDD...

2x sata DVD writers...

Also i Forget to mention.. My 1 TB's are one Full 1 TB paritions (no sub partitions).. so I have 4 Full 1 TB partitions individually...
____________

Swapped from Marvel 6G slots to Intel Sata Ports... Nothing good result ,same old problem..

These may not be the problems I think and the list is,

1.SMPS: first i thought Maybe my former HX 620 watts is not enough for my Rig but happens with New HX850 watts. so its not SMPS...

2. RAMS : Ran lots of Memory tests and all passed successful with 6 GB or 10GB during OC or without OC. Also RAMS were replaced once too..

3. Video cards : The crash happens only when moving large data frequently. so i don't think it's the video card problem. Though watching Videos do crash and it's def'ly related to video card But I don't see crashes at all while gaming or running Kombuster. So i consider it may not be the video card.

4. Processor : The system never crashes when running any proccy dependent or stress softwares with OC or without OC. I guess it's not the processor..

5. Sound card : It happened with my Old X-FI xtrememusic sound card also too. It's nothing new when using this new Titanium Card.

Any feedback is really appreciated and will be helpful to my Problem solving Journey...

Various "solutions" from Windows 7 forums:

You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM

Can you check your event logs for system/application errors?

As a suggestion, test what happens when you fully uninstall (disabling is not enough) your anti-virus utility and 3rd-party firewalls, if any.
The most likely cause is interference from a kernel-mode filter driver.

"Im going to take a guess that you had XP running on the machine first then installed Windows 7 as a second OS on the same drive. When you installed 7 you didn't let it format the drive. So windows 7 is trying to use the old XP drive format. With each new version of Windows they update how it formats and writes the FAT table to the drive. Windows 7 could be slow when copying large files due to its writing to the drive in the older XP drive table format, it maybe a small bug the only way to tell is if you reinstalled Windows 7 letting the install format the drive and then test again."

Not an unknown problem, but not finding a conclusive answer.

Thanks for reply....

unfortunately... none of your suggestion do applicable to me becoz it's been ages i installed XP in my Own rig... When Vista released then only I forgot to use XP.. Also I deleted RAID when i tried to test Non RAID OS which means the data or OS previous installed will be deleted...

As i said in my first post.. There is nothing showing up in system/application errors.. Just an unexpected shutdown msg...

Also i Forget to mention.. My 1 TB's are one Full 1 TB paritions (no sub partitions).. so I have 4 Full 1 TB partitions individually...

can you upload your minidump files, located in c:\windows\minidump? you will have to enable to view hidden files and folders to see it, there will be one for each bsod, just upload the last 3 or 4, i will take a look see if i can find anything that might be causing it.

I am well aware this may be useless info, but the problem must be maddening for you.

If you can't see a Minidump folder in Windows folder on C drive, what about a search, including hidden files and folders for *.dmp files?

If none then
"Go to Start and type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Startup and Recovery Settings button
Ensure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked
Under the Write Debugging Information header select "Small memory dump (64 kB)" in the dropdown box
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as "%systemroot%\Minidump" (without the quotes)
Click OK twice to exit the dialogs, then reboot for the changes to take effect." http://www.carrona.org/setmini.html

If any bluetooth devices are installed:
http://www.vistaheads.com/forums/546701-post8.html

Bump SB/ICH voltage

You are not alone. This problem reported during beta testing - http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-support/6521-windows-7-rc1-x64-crashes-during-large-file-operations.html

You may have found these already.

SInce no specific driver is mentioned I would also run a system file check to verify and repair your system files, and let us know the results. If that doesnt help we can run a driver verifier.

Make sure you have a complete backup and restore point before verifier

Beyond that, please run Verifier with these settings:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
NOTE: You can use Low Resource Simulation if you'd like. From my limited experimentation it makes the BSOD's come faster.
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.
Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll have to see about fixing the registry entry off-line:
Code:
Code:
Delete these registry keys (works in XP, Vista, Win7):
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDrivers
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\VerifyDriverLevel
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244617

have you tried this?
