Help Build Computer

Thread Starter
Hey Guys,
I was talking to a buddy of mine and got into a conversation about me building my first computer and how well it went and the quickness of it.He brought up the fact that he currently has a 6 year old computer and recently got into photography and using Adobe Photoshop. He mentioned that it takes way to long to load photos/render.I offered to build a computer for him but I need your opinion and expertise. He doesn't really game at all but will use it for internet, videos and of course photography. What would be a great computer build for this situation? What would be a better build?AMD or INTEL? I would think INTEL because all I hear about is AMD is best for gaming.Anyway I think he wants the budget to be under $850.00 but if you guys can build something that over that target but no more then $1200 as maybe a elite build for this situation that will give him options to go over. This build will also have to last long so factor that in mind also.Appreciate the help as you guys helped me learn so much for my build. Thanks

Thanks

X6 1055T
8 GB of ram

Choose whatever else, maybe an SSD.

Personally as a friendly jesture I'd tell him to wait a few weeks to see how the bulldozer thing pans out (also waiting for fixed sandy bridge boards).
Waiting on X399

What? Neither is "best for gaming".
AMD is cheaper, Intel is a little more expensive.
If he isn't doing any gaming, then he doesn't need TOO much power.

It doesn't matter between Intel or AMD. But what I'm sure of he'll really need a Nvidia card more than a AMD card since you mentioned photography. What I know is Nvidia's are really good when it comes to multimedia applications because of CUDA but if its like just pure pictures then I think anything will do. You only need something that can process faster. Its more on compression and files which I believe processor. If its video editing then its more on graphics card. I think your friends budget is good enough after having a 6 year old computer he'll appreciate how much its improved.

I would wait until 1155 is availible again.

Asus pro P67 micro would surfice,

I have to say G0 with a 2600, he won't be overclocking so no need to get a K series chip

this will give you the HT that may be usful with some photo editing software

for vid as it may be overkill, but a 6850 would be a nice fit and give him great preformance to rip it up on freecell ....... LOL

I would however go with some quick RAM

I'd say maybe go with larger hard drives, depending on how large his images take up. And by videos, do you mean watching videos online, or watching movies and tv shows and whatnot? Those things add up pretty darn fast.

I don't know what happened to the list but thats what I got so far?Does this look fine?

I think a 460 is overkill for photoshop. Unless he wants to spend more, a lower end card would be more cost effective.

Agree. Maybe the 450 or a 5670, a 5770 if he wants to spend more. All of them can be had for cheaper than the 460, even the 768MB versions.
