Thanks for providing the logo, but it´s really AMD:

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/amd-radeon-hd-6000/hd-6870/Pages/amd-radeon-hd-6870-overview.aspx

Anyway, I´m not going to put a logo on it anymore, so... ;-)

I was just curious if the bleh factor was the logo itself or the fact that there is a logo on it.

And yeah, starting with 6000 series, no more ATi.

I love this idea. And I think if I were to make one, I'd make a cutout of OCN's flame with blue mesh.

Heck even with OP's new design, I'd paint OCN's logo on the mesh itself.

No point in me doing it though. I don't have a windowed case anymore.

This is the back of a 6970

I see them doing this with the new sandybridge mobos too. For example:

Why haven't manufacturers been doing this all along? It looks way better and you don't have to worry about touching exposed ics or solder joints. I can only assume it's because they have been able to make them run cooler in recent years, so are able to block them off without running into heat problems..

Last update for today...

Next steps:

- More smoothing
- Fine putty
- Smoothing
- Filler
- Smoothing
- Drilling the holes for mounting
- Paintjob
- Fitting the mesh
- Mounting

Edit:

Why must I now see that there IS a backplate for the 6870 available to buy? :-(

http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/u...lack-1_600.jpg

And it even looks damn sexy! :-(

Thought I was building something unique here... damn... I could have bought it for 25€ and I´ve already spent lot more than that for the materials. Arghs!

How much do you think that weighs compared to the stock? I also wanted to know how much of a difference do you think the backplate makes for cooling compared to just taking it off. The way I have my rig set up is I have a 120mm in the bay that points directly over the heatsink & tosses the heat out the back of the case. the fan is always blowing cold air
