Could be a trap.

I would tell her you switched it without actually doing it, then about a week later ask her if she noticed any speed loss. If she did not then you can safely switch it at this point. If she did "switch it back".

I have gotten this with family in the past, where they swear their computer was faster before I touched it. In reality all I had done was remove spyware, viruses, and bonzai buddy.
