[EG] Momentus XT Hybrid Drive Causing Headaches, Seagate Working To Fix. - Page 3

Bad article title. I thought they were causing migraines.

This is classic Seagate - nothing new except the model number.

But then, pretty much every other drive manufacturer has become extinct, leaving little choice. Even this problem isn't anything new, their drives fifteen years ago went through a spate of platter shutdowns and random lapses into sleep - especially those times when a drive is lighly used, like indexing a massive database, during defragging operations, or when tossing network mail...

I'm still not counting them out, Seagate is an exceptional product & company!

Mad props for doing what others are afraid to! (fail, lol, kidding!)

Wow too many haters, Seagate doesn't suck, not even!

I RMAed a 1TB external and they sent me a brand new latest model 1.5TB external in return!

Seagate FTW!

I like the management of their company...

Don't risk losing a future sale, this is what I call smart!

GOOD 4 Them & U! Win Win!

Umm... Western Digital, Samsung, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Maxtor, etc... plus all the SSD manufactures.

particularly when installed in a Mac.
Perhaps the 3rd FW update is for Mac problems. I'm not updating.

The apm is what you want to disable in XT drive. I have no problems with this drive since SD24 FW.

Maxtor is long gone, absorbed by WD. Many drive makers have gone out of the business, like CDC, Micropolis, Priam, Rodime, Core, Quantum (and their predecesor, Plus), and so on. Of course, some crummy drives became extinct as well, like Miniscribe, Xebec, and Connor. They have all had their bad times - Seagate on numerous occasions made some real dreck, and had crap warranty coverage that handed many customers to their competitors (especially Quantum, and WD to an extend once WD got their brain out of the Tandon rut they were in for so long).

The market is pretty much in the hands of the surviving few - which hasn't been entirely bad because the remaining companies are very competitive when it comes to their products; and I think decreasing prices on SSDs will put more pressure on for them to raise the bar as high, or higher, than Hitachi's 24TB drive.

This! Why all the hate when it seems to be mostly a MAC problem?

Most importantly Seagate is supporting their product and working on the problem rather then sweeping it under the rug.

Weird. My Momentus XT is just fine.

That's just what you get for buying a Mac
