Will Q9550 @ 4ghz bottleneck SLI gtx580?? - Page 2

A C2Q at 4Ghz is more than enough for modern gaming. Honestly, until games become optimized for more than 4 cores your rig should perform nearly as well as any i7 rig as far as games are concerned.

You shouldn't feel any significant bottlenecking with dual 580s.

No, just no.

OP:
Your C2Q at 4.0GHz will be just fine with SLI'd 580's. How in the hell is overclocking going to DECREASE performance? Seriously? Overclock it more if you can. Overclock your new cards. Any increase is an increase .

And your PSU is MORE than adequate for your build. You might even be able to squeeze in a low power PhysX card (not that it'd be needed).

Not enough too warrant the price IMO :/ 1 580 will be good for now then save up for the cpu/mobo upgrade a year from now. 12 core processors anyone?

I fail to see how that's possible. I personally prefer to only be running at ~80% of my PSUs rated max at my most stressful point. I don't like running at or close to 100%. And with his proc overclocked as well as two GTX 580s (also potentially overclocked) and in your case a third smaller Physx card, I don't see anything less than close to 100% capacity.

I have to wholeheartedly disagree with this statement.

Are you seriously saying that a CPU upgrade will give him more FPS than another GTX580? If he went to a a 12-core at 5GHz it still wouldn't give him more FPS than another GTX580.

If you have the money to get another GTX 580, go for it. If that's ALL the money you have left, don't. It's entirely up to you.

I say go for it.

The SLI scaling is going to vary depending on the test you run, but it should be between 50 and 90%. If you create a more CPU-dependent scenario, it will be towards the lower end of that scale (the GPU score in Vantage Performance mode, for example). If you create a highly GPU-dependent scenario (say, the GPU score on 3dMark11 Extreme Mode) it will tend towards the higher end.

Pfft, why stop at 2 GTX 580's? F'it, go ahead and add a 3rd one. Afterwards, might as well spread some love and send me a check for $1,000.
