current mouse/new mouse help

Thread Starter
So, I currently have a Razer Imperator. I like it well enough except for a few glaring issues.

Namely-- it will freeze up on me from time to time. I would say it freezes up on average twice a day, and sometimes up to 4 times during a game session. The only way to fix it is to climb in back of my computer and unplug it.

The 2nd issue is that any time I lift the mouse and put it back down, there's a pause where the mouse becomes unusable. This recovers itself after a second or two, but it certainly is responsible for more than it's share of deaths during a gaming session.

I assume the lift off issue can't be "fixed." But if someone has a fix, I'd love to hear it.

Is there any mouse out there you can recommend that doesn't have this issue? I had a logitech mx518(I think) but returned it because I couldn't defeat the acceleration. Maybe I didn't try hard enough, but from my quick browsing of the forums there was some inherent acceleration.

DeathAdder Black Edition.

No freezing, no issues so far. As for lift off distance I can't comment as I usually never lift my mouse up most of the time because of the way I play. But some people fixed their lift off issues with a piece of scotch tape.

And yes, this is really how I play with only about 6 inches of mouse pad space moving only about 1.5 inches left and right. I don't do a whole lot of lifting and swiping. If you're worried about that you'd have to ask someone who has a similar play style like yours. A full standard cloth pad is about 8 inches across.

But if you're having connection problems check your drivers, make sure your mouse is running the latest drivers and firmware. Also check your cable it might be going bad if you have had it or a while. It could also be a driver conflict problem if it's dropping out. Make sure you use a USB connection that is directly on the motherboard. I notice when using a front panel USB my Mamba would stop working in UEFI bios on my motherboard. But when I plugged it directly to a port on the motherboard it would work again.

The only time I had a Razer mouse stop responding was because the mouse cable was bad and when Diamondback first came out. Sometimes XP would stop recognizing the mouse on boot-up.

I used to have an MX518/G500, now I use an Intellimouse 3.0 which I'm loving so far.
The G500 is really nice, slightly expensive, and cannot track for its life on a cloth pad. MX518/IME 3.0 are optical and have perfect tracking although all logitech mice have prediction so I don't use them.

So I use the IME 3.0 for a natural feel (With a puretrak talent mousepad)

I used both the Imperator and a G500 (and a Mamba, and G700) and have to say I picked the G500 in the end of the more comfortable grip in longer gaming sessions. I really like the feel of the Imperator, but it just never quite felt right. I didn't notice any of the issues you're mentioning though. Perhaps it's a driver issue or USB port placement.

As for the Deathadder -- is that more of a palm or claw style mouse? OP, what style are you primarily as that tends to determine what mice you you/dislike.

Deathadder is ergonomic so it's undoubtedly intended for Palm grippers in mind. I know a few people who Fingertip with it but Claw gripping with it is just awkward.
