HELP: Asus P5E Overclocking Q9450 and 8800GT SLI issue.

Thread Starter
Hi there, first id like to say thanks for all previous help iv'e received from the nice members here.

Today yet again I have come up with a new problem. I downgraded a couple of weeks ago from i7 950 to a Q9450 .

I bought a Asus P5E mobo and updated to the latest bios. Now when i try to overclock my Quad the Bios Doesn't let me change the FSB value and it stays at 333. I cant even get to type in the numbers because the FSB setting is greyed out kind of.

So i was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or knows how to solve it.

Problem number 2. Got some EVGA SC 8800GT's want to SLI them. First when i got them i put one of the cards in Installed drivers then added the second card. Obviously i used the SLI bridge. Thing is that booth cards are recognised in msi afterburner and GPU'z but on GPU'z it says SLI disabled. And there isn't a SLI setting in the Nvidia CP. So today i reinstalled the drivers with booth cards in and still no luck. (booth cards work so that isn't the issue)

Sorry for the long read but iv'e tried to explain the problem as well as my English knowledge lets me.

Thanks and rep For helpful post's as it should be

Thanks, shadow19935

as far as I know the BIOS should have an option that locks the FSB values if it is enabled which you will need to disable in order for it to work.

With the SLI problem try running some games on just one and then with both to see if the SLI is working or if GPUz is incorrect. Check by checking your FPS obviously

Try to put Ai overclocker at manual or something. Don't know what it's called in that mobo.

Asus P5E X38 chipset only supports Crossfire, not SLI. However, you can use a hack - HOWTO: SLI on a non-SLI Motherboard

Yeah, put Ai overclock tuner at Manual.

Edit: I see in your Thread heading that you state a P5E, but in you thread you state you have a P5K. Does not matter anyway. X38 and P35...

Thank you for your help. I dont know how i could of been so stupid and not realise that it doesnt support SLI. But yeah i will try and set AI overclock to manual.

Well overclocking now works. Gonna attempt the SLI hack, just a question, Will it still let me use my HD6870 ? and will it still work with CF?

Also if anyone is still here, now that 3.2ghz is stable i would like some 4ghz action, since im very rusty on LGA 775 OC'ing can some one roughly guide me on voltages. What i need. i know Vcore is obvs and probs gonna be 1.43 or so?
what i need is NB FSB? FSB termination ECT?

If you can use your HD6870 after you have used 2x8800GT SLI? Sure you can. And also Crossfire. The SLI Hack has a option to disable it. But you won't be using those nVidia drivers if taking out the nVidia cards anyway.. so...

You will have a hard time hitting 4GHz stable with that Q9450. Too low multiplier. 3.6 - 3.8GHz is more likely. I run my Q9400 on 3.6GHz Rock stable on a Gigabyte GA-P35 DS3R.

For templates and stuff to try, I'll let KingT post. He has very good templates to give you...
