One of the biggest PC indie releases of recent years, Minecraft, is to be released officially on iPhone and iPad, it's been confirmed.

Developer Mojang told Gamasutra that the iOS version of the hit PC game is currently in the beta stages and a full release is planned for sometime this year.

Markus Persson, founder of Mojang confirmed that the iOS edition will not receive every update that the PC original gets, but rather will be granted those features that "make sense" for the touch-screen devices.

Minecraft has seen numerous unofficial releases on iPhone and iPad so far, but this is the first official edition from the Mojang team.

Right... game is built in Java.. Hey lets rewrite the whole thing in Objective-C instead of porting it to the native Java platform.

Notch said early on he wanted to port the game to Android. Thanks for selling us out man.

yes, lets port it to a closed down device instead of putting it on devices that have super fast cpus and power graphics chips that have yet to be utilized.

android phones could totally run minecraft.

I, for one, welcome the fact that he has chosen to develop for the iPhone. Verrry excited about this one!

I'd be amazed if he was able to figure out how to let iPhones/iPads connect to PC servers though, but I can always hope.

100000000 times easier to build it for iOS. With iOS, he knows what the hardware it will be running on is. With Android you have a lot of fragmentation.

and if all programmers thought like that they wouldn't make video games for computers.
Plus he already built a game that doesn't run on all PCs, so what is the difference in having a phone program that has certain requirements?
