They must be making a new engine for it. Why else take so much time for something that was originally supposed to be about 5-6 hours long (at best)? At any rate, a simple acknowledgment that the game is in the works is all I really need. At least give me that.

Guys, guys, just think to yourself a little bit. What happens when you say Half life episode 3, you get all giddy. Valve's developers can't be looking like that during an interview., it's embarassing.

I bet they won't say it. First because it continues to build on the cult of the game; second because if they did, everybody would be having expectations from day one about release date, and that is neither good for us or for them.

This way they can just keep working on it (which they obviously are) without pressure and start talking about it when it's virtually ready.

He didn't say what you are saying.

And what you are saying is not applicable at this transitional time.

The Source engine they will use, whichever name they chose to give it, will use newer technologies like DX10 and 11 rendering (just like CryEngine 3), but will of course still support DX9, because there is still a huge install base. Not exactly because many people still only have DX9 only cards, but because many people with DX10 and DX11 cards still have Windows XP, and they are still happy to work with it on a daily basis. Just looking at the Steam Monthly Hardware Survey confirms this.

Well this gives me time to go and finsish episode 1 and them episode 2 and them replay all of Half Life 2 games 17 times on the hardest difficulty with my eyes closed and no cheats. Then i estimate that it will be done.
