Eyefinity

Thread Starter
new poster here, shouldnt 6xxx series cards go on the AMD board?
anyways on to my questions

so i have a Phenom IIx2 550 and a 4770, running 2x1920x1080 Vizio Razer LED TV's
im happy with them and the performance of my 4770, i can run every game on highest except STALKER Clear Sky and Metro 2033

then saturday, i won a 1920x1080 24" ASUS monitor from a local Quake II tournament and i want to use all 3 monitors in eyefinity
my PSU is a Coolermaster 460watt and im thinking of getting a 6950 2gb

3 questions:

Is a 6950 the best option under $300?

Will i need to replace my PSU? (really dont want to buy another)

Is Eyefinity hard to get working in games?

1. 6950 is a good card, not to mention most can be unlocked to be a 6970.

2. Quite possibly. Unfortunately you don't state what PSU you have, so we may never know. So add your specs here

3. Not that I know of, just set it up in CCC and you should be fine. But the problem you will have however, if all 3 screens are different sizes. I don't think they will be able to do eyefinity for games.
6950 will do just fine. make sure they are all 1920 1080 or 1920 1200 because if they are different it won't work

6950 2GB is really nice.. it can be unlocked to a 6970 as far as I know

If your PSU is something like this you will be just fine http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

1.) a 6950 is probably the best bang for the buck value right now.
2.) I'm not PSU master, so I can't be certain. The recommended PSU for the 6950 is 500w. You may be able to squeeze along with that, depending on the amperage on the 12v rail.
3.) Eyefinity is not hard. AMD makes it real easy to set up multi monitors.

Eyefinity will work so long as all the monitors are running the same resolution. Size doesn't matter, only resolution.

It depends GREATLY on the game. Some games need simple .ini config file tweaks and they'll work.

-Say Fallout New Vegas, Dragon Age Origins, Half Life games etc to name a few that just need some ini tweaks and they work well if not great.

-Some work out of the box like Metro2033.

-Some big name games like the Mass Effect series are utterly broken beyond usability, due to shoddy coding which BioWare refuses to patch....and NO amount of tweaking will make them usable.

Best source to find out if your game works or not and how:

It will work...the question is regarding bezel compensation-which requires near identical monitors.

It will work somewhat properly.

Eyefinity will set all monitors to the highest resolution that the monitor with the lowest resolution can achieve. In your case all m onitors are 1920x1080. They should work fine in eyefinity. You just probably won't be able to use bezel compensation

6950 = best budget option

Eyefinity is VERY easy to get working in most modern games. Just enable it in CCC, then go to change the resolution in game. DONE. THAT SIMPLE.

Yup, bezel compensation will not work with different monitors. You would have to flash the EDID in order to get it to work.
