I won't argue that good points were made, but the overall attitude behind the arguments was generally unfriendly and at points, condescending.

On the other hand, regular Macbooks suck, and are overpriced.
Macbook pro's are built very well, but don't have IPS screens. They are relatively above average TN panels however, which is good enough for most people. I know of IPS-equipped private sector laptops, but they are marketed toward the mobile professional and not the average user.

Won't disagree there, but is that reason enough to wipe out several hours and many good points that can be brought up later in other discussions?

I tried to be nice in the end. (unless beer and brats offends someone)

because the name calling and certain posts violate the ToS. while debate is encouraged it should also stay clean and about the topic at hand.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Light Peak is going to seriously drive up the cost... maybe not this much, but likely seriously. Are there even any Light Peak devices out now? No.
Yeah, t hey should save Light Peak for things like Mac Pros.

Cost wise it could add. Though Apple is no stranger to taking drastic turns from the norm (ie: removing fireware from mbp...or...releasing MBA without a CD/DVD drive.) It could certainly get accessory manufacturers up to speed with LightPeak rather quickly as they'll want to have all kinds of external drives and attachements to make use of that new port. Just look at the case/dock/accessory frenzy iphones, ipads, and ipods go through with every revision.
