Need help reaching 4GHz i5 760.

Hello everyone !

I'm new member so please forgive me if I break any rule here.
Sorry for bad english as well. Hope you'll get to my point and will be able to help

I'd like to reach 4GHz with my i5 760. No matter what I try I've stuck at 3.8GHz stable (checked with LinX) At the moment my spec are.

CPU @3.8GHz
RAM: @1440MHz
BCLK: 181x21
Dram Timings: 7-8-7-20 1T

CPU Voltage: 1.35v
VTT: 1.3v
DRAM Voltage: 1.66v

To reach 4GHz I've tried:

BCLK: 200x20 failed
BCLK: 191x21 failed
Raising the RAM timings to 9-9-9-24 2T failed
Setting the core voltage to 1.4v failed
And few other configurations I cant remember...
Do you have any sugestions what am I doing wrong here ?
Every time computer starts with 4GHz but after around 1 minute LinX posts an error.

And another thing. Is this true that if I use x22 multiplier only one core will run on it and all the others will be on x21 ???

Thanks in advance for all your imputs.

What sort of temps are you getting at the moment? You can't run a 1.4vcore on air safely without hitting high temps.

Try a 2T timing on your memory as well.

At the moment after 30 min LinX I've reached max 72°C. When Playing Crysis 2 beta - never go above 58 on the cores.

Ok,

So when you try to run 4ghz at 191x21 it boots but you fail in linx. I'd say loosen your memory timings at bit, Try running at 8-8-8-24 2T. Also, drop your memory voltage, you shouldn't need it that high.

yeah reeks of memory. I saw that i3s can reach 4.20GHz, so I say you keep your RAM at its rated specs (you have 1600MHz RAMz right? If you don't then you shouldn't go past 3.50GHz) and just go for 4.20GHz, which I believe is 200x21, w/ 8x memory multiplier.

I have my i7 at 4.20GHz, and let me tell you bro. Even at lower bclk multipliers (say 19x instead of 21x) it goes unstable. (actually this was with 1333MHz RAM, I have 1600MHz RAM now so that might not happen).

@cHEEZ
I've tried your settings... Got LinX error after 20 seconds; Is this possible that this is just too much for my corsairs or simply my CPU can't handle it ?

i'm running 4.0GHz with 1.264V (as reported by CPU-Z), it's a 1.28 in BIOS, though. This is with 200x20. You should also run your RAM at it's stock volts until you're 100 sure it's the RAM. My RAM's stock volts are 1.5V.

You do have to remember that every CPU is different, so maybe your CPU can't take it. My RAM is running @ stock because of the overclock @ 1600MHz

I'm on stock timings, which I think are at 9-9-9-24-2T. Not sure though. RAM timings aren't my thing

My VTT is at 1.27 if I recall correctly

keep the ram voltages at 1.5v, disable turbo boost if you haven't already, enable XMP profile for the ram in the bios, Your motherboardboard manual has an overclocking guide. I'm running at 4ghz with 1.28v,Bus speed 214mhz, QPI 3863mhz Ram is at 1700mhz 9-9-9-24 on WC.

My RAM default voltage is 1.65v. I don't really want to raise memory frequency as I noticet that I'm getting better results with tider timings than higher frequency.
