Laptop issues

Here's the trouble. Every time I play any sort of game, my laptop will go for about 15 minutes, and then simply die. First time was Arkham Asylum, then twice with L4D2. This is a new thing, because when I had Crysis on my laptop, it never did anything like this. I'm not sure if the problem is overheating, but how would I check to see if it is? If not overheating, what else could be causing this?

Using laptop cooling fan
Not sure on temps at crash, but was 57c on restart

From some quick searching it seems like 57c is a bit warm for start up and on idle. Seems like other people hit 60s on load.

This temp is just from restarting after your laptop died? Or from booting up cold when it's been off for a long time? Does it blue screen or just shut itself off?

You can use a program called Real Temp to monitor temperatures:

http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

There might be a logging feature to find out how high your temps hit before the crash occurs but I've never had to use it. You could always have Real Temp running and then run a test like Prime95 to load up your cores and bring the temps up a bit while keeping an eye on Real Temp to see what it hits before crashing.

Other things - scan for viruses/malware, check your battery, try turning off power saving settings, you can try putting on new thermal paste and re-seating the heatsink/CPU.

Lemme know if you got more questions. Hope this was of some help, reps would be nice if so.

The 57c was taken on startup, right after it crashed

I've also noticed a 20c difference between the readings of RealTemp, and those of Speedfan

Grabbed a shot during a sensor test, running Prime95 now to get a better feel for things

take the bottom off it, and unleash the air compressor...

Update:

Ran a 30min stress test using Prime 95...no issues. Speedfan peaked at 77c, and RealTemp never registered over 96c (Still no clue on the difference in readings)

Run Furmark and Prime95 to rule out CPU and GPU.

Real Temp is your core temp whereas Speedfan might be pulling numbers from a temp diod which is on your heatsink further away or something.

Temp looks fine for a laptop.

How does your laptop "die"? Completely turns off (power supply everything off)? or goes into shutdown? Freezes?

One second I'm playing a game and the next, it shuts off instantly...no shut down or anything like that
