Rebuild Kernel - No Nvidia module?

Thread Starter
So I've been tinkering around with an install of openSUSE for a while now, and I come across an odd issue. Whenever I recompile the kernel, I am left without the ability to have a GUI - all error messages are pointing to missing the "Nvidia-kernel-module".

I've retraced my steps, and everytime I get the same result. I don't see any options for anytihng nvidia-related while building the kernel, so I'm obviously missing something that is either assumed to be already done, or missing something obvious that none of the results from Googling I get would think of mentioning.

So, at any rate, looking for a bit of help here as to how to recompile this module or just get a working X server at all after recompiling the kernel.

you will need to go to nvidia.com and download the official nvidia drivers, and then reinstall them after the kernel upgrade, cause the nvidia driver is built against the kernel, so if suse doesn't support the kernel you are using, it wont have a precompiled kernel module for nvidia in its repos.

Not sure how it works in openSUSE, but when I rebuilt my Arch kernel, I had to build the headers as well, and also had to modify the PKGBUILD for Arch's nvidia driver package to match the name of my new kernel.

you do not need to build headers, if you keep the source intact after installing the new kernel.
