Dragon Age 2 demo! demo link. - Page 14

This game runs like crap and it doesn't even look that good. There is no SLI support either.

Just played through the demo as a warrior. OH LAWDY LAWDY ! Combat is suh-weet! The way you're swinging your sword around like a mad man is so awesome to look at, and doing a whirlwind and cutting four enemies in half is just pure awesomeness. Mages are throwing fire balls all over the place and making shiss explode. Its just really a joy to look at, it just saddens me that I have to pause all the time to give out orders Dialogue is like in Mass Effect 2, which I like a lot better. I hate it when your character is just there and doesnt actually say anything.
BTW if you're getting problems with low FPS / missing textures, just reload the game and its gone. I wasnt entirely sure that I was gonna buy this game before, but I am now.

thanks for that

kinda hard to form an impression when cutscenes hover between 5 and 30+fps, and combat is at a steady 5fps

Here's a quick rundown of my opinion after having played the demo:

The core gameplay seemed to be intact aside from a few things. In the demo, there was no friendly fire. This is HUGE. It could just be because the difficulty was locked to normal, but even on normal in DAO, spells had friendly fire. Tactically this changes everything. It makes positioning much less important and allows you to charge into combat like a crazy man. If you cast a fireball on your own party in DAO you were up **** creek. Sadly I think this was an intended dumbing down of the difficulty because charging into combat is literally what warriors do now. You lunge on your target like you're using commando in MW2.

I played a 2h warrior through the demo and along with the dreaded animations comes a change in the core mechanics of his attacks. Autoattacks are much faster now (even with a 2h). I must confess that I am very curious to see how fast they are with haste. The autoattacks with a 2h weapon also inherently cleave, hitting targets in a frontal cone. This makes you keep positioning in mind even when just autoattacking. The special attacks hit like a diesel truck while the autoattack was a fast, steady trickle of damage.

Stamina and mana seemed to be much less of a concern. I don't think I had a single character run out of their resource one time in the demo even when I was spamming all active abilities the moment they came off cooldown. This could be quite detrimental, as resource management was hugely important to the strategy in DAO (although it could usually be remedied by chugging a huge number of potions). All the same, abilities don't consume half your stamina or mana bar every time you use them.

One thing I LOVED was the new tooltips and ability descriptions. Gone are the vague descriptions of DAO like "deals heavy damage" or "massive bonus to attack". They give you numbers now. It's much easier to decipher exactly what an ability does and if it's actually worthwhile, particularly before you put a skillpoint into it. The inventory is disabled in the demo, so I didn't get to use it, but the ability trees and the tooltips in general are much better than before.

Overall, I liked it. The content of the demo felt a little bit bland, but I forgive that because the immersiveness factor in an RPG is cut down to zero when they simply catapult you directly into the experience with virtually no context and then take away the inventory system and half the ability trees. The game I loved is still in there, it's just got a flashier exterior. A lot of people don't like that, but if you can't get over it then The Witcher 2 comes out in two months. Enjoy.

It's much better than origins so far. Combat is still tactical. I wiped a couple times on the Ogre boss when the dwarf was telling the real story, and its on normal difficulty.

The animations are improved. Graphics are improved. Gameplay is improved. The Dialogue wheel is obviously better than the boring

1.
2.
3.

I really didn't like origins outside of the story. Gameplay was very clunky and stiff. This game is very good though, and judging from the first 20 minutes of the game, its definitely on par, if not better than Mass Effect 2, which is a lot for me to say. I idolized mass effect 2.

Torrents are the best way to share files. Not all torrents are pirating. That is very legit.

ouch damn im glad i didnt go with a lower end card like I wanted to to save money. I keep hearing everyone getting wicked low FPS but i have no encountered that yet.

I was able to max everything & still get 35-45 FPS. I even considered selling my 6950 to go with a 6870 but now im debating not to.
