not sure where to ask this but its kinda photo related

so the athletics department at my school is interested in the photos i took last saturday, i am in the process of trying to get a job working with them to make their live internet stream better so people can actually watch our games online and enjoy them. i offered to give them like 60 photos just so they can check out what i have photography wise even though thats not the work i want to do for them. i realize that im giving them away for free but this is a two part question. considering the equipment i have and the quality of the photos what do yall think would be fair to ask as far as money if they want more AND they were asking for a link so they can get my shots that i want to give them anyway... where can i host a rar file that has like 60 of my shots in it or should i just put them on a CD for them?

sorry its kind of a long post lol

Just my two cents to one part of the question:

If you want to charge, I think you should charge based on the quality of the photos, not the cost of the equipment you're going to use. Your stuff does cost a fair bit of money but in the end it's the talent, not the equipment, that the department is paying for.

im just talking about the quality that the photos are based on the fact that i dont have professional equipment. because i have pretty good sports shots but obviously they arent like sports illustrated quality professional photos. so like to a normal person they look awesome but in reality they are kinda low quality and some have noise in them although its not a terrible amount that makes the photo worthless. i mean if they were to offer to compensate me which has been offered already, just wondering whats fair. i was thinking about charging just based on the amount of time spent covering the sports events rather than the number of photos. i was going to probably ask if they still held the offer for like $75 for the whole days worth of work because i started taking photos around 1:00 and finished taking them around 9:30 (covered 2 sports events. tennis and mens and womens basketball)

you are under valuing yourself, it doest matter what if your EQ is a rebel xt or a 1d4 it is the image in the end that counts. i would price them on how much time the event took from you. you also need to consider the time it takes you to post the images. but for your first gig, i might just offer it to them as a freebie and bring up charges on the next set if they decide to use your photos.

i use dropbox for profile, it is easy to use and it works well for me atleast.

ps, you might want to google up a contract so you protect your rights to your own photos. you dont have to execute the clauses if you dont want to but its always nice to have them there.

im actually trying to become an employee for athletics doing their media, mainly video work because i think i would benefit resume wise.

thanks for that dropbox suggestion im going to check that out. i already sent them an email and will drop the photos off on a CD for them as a freebie of course to try and break the ice about working for them in the future running the video broadcast for games and hopefully being in charge of that and then if they want me to continue doing photos i would because hopefully i would actually work for them and would get paid extra for the job.
